World Cup 2018 to raise sales of consumer products by 5%
Bangkok, June 8 – The World Cup 2018 will be viewed by about 10 million people in the country, raise the sales of consumer products by 5% and trigger spending worth about 6.6 billion baht, according to the Kasikorn Research Center.
The World Cup 2018 in Russia from June 14 to July 15 would prompt spending worth 6.68 billion baht on consumer products including foods, beverages, clothes and sports gear. The sales of such products would rise by about 5% from their normal level, the center stated.
The event would also boost spending in the overall economy because some groups of football fans would spend on related activities and products. For example, football enthusiasts would visit event venues and restaurants to watch World Cup matches, buy foods and beverages while watching matches elsewhere and spend on the jerseys of their favorite football teams. The private sector is heavily launching promotional campaigns to cash in on the event.
The Kasikorn Research Center expects about 10.96 million people to watch World Cup matches in Thailand due to the full live coverage of all the 64 matches through free digital TV channels, match schedules suitable for Thailand’s time and the large number of Thai people who favor the football teams that reach the World Cup final.
