Cummins starts building plant in western Turkey
IZMIR (A.A) - 06.05.2011 - U.S.-based engine maker Cummins broke ground on Friday on a $70 million multi-phased manufacturing site at the Aegean Free Trade Zone in Izmir, Turkey.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Turkish Industry & Trade Minister Nihat Ergun, Culture & Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay and U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Francis J. Ricciardone, as well as top company executives.
Cummins plans to build a filtration and generator manufacturing plant for its power generation business.
The company will spend $70 million for the facility and related production equipment. It will export 85 percent of the products made in Turkey to customers across the world.
Cummins plans to begin production at the plant in early 2012.
Cummins, a global power leader, is a corporation of complementary business units that design, manufacture, distribute and service engines and related technologies, including fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions and electrical power generation systems. Company's total sales reached $13 billion in 2010.
