13th Latin American Film Festival Kicks Off Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The 13th Latin American Film Festival will be held from Thursday until Nov 23 at Indicine Box, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) in Jalan Strachan, Sentul, here. According to a statement from the Mexican embassy on behalf of the Latin American embassies in Malaysia, the film festival is an annual event organised by the embassies of Latin America and Caribbean countries in Malaysia, namely Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. "It is a showcase of Latin American culture through its films and it has already been established as a traditional contribution to the vibrant cultural life of Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. "The Malaysian public will have the opportunity to get acquainted with some of the best Latin American-produced films as well as to learn about the region's realities," the statement said. This year, the festival features a variety of genres from comedies, dramas, historical facts to a documentary, which provide a particular view on societies in different periods of Latin American history. The films include Argentina's Mi primera boda (My First Wedding), Brazil's 2 Filhos de Francisco (Two Sons of Francisco), Chile's Perez, Colombia's Karen Llora en un Bus (Karen Cries in a Bus) and Cuba's Casa Vieja (Old House). The festival will also feature Ecuador's 1809-1810 Mientras llega el da (1809-1810 As the Day Arrives), Mexico's Tercera llamada (Last Call), Peru's Buscando a Gaston (Finding Gaston), Uruguay's El Ingeniero (The Engineer) and Venezuela's Patas arriba (Topsy Turvy).
