AIFFA Good Platform To Promote Business Collaborations For ASEAN Film Industry

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) 2015 to be attended by 200 international personalities and celebrities will serve as a good platform to promote business collaborations and networking within the ASEAN film industry, says Sarawak Housing and Tourism Minister Abang Johari Openg. He said delegates and filmmakers would have the golden opportunity to exchange information and resources on potential collaborations with film industries, especially from China during the three-day festival, beginning April 9 in Kuching, Sarawak. "Panel speakers comprising renowned filmmakers, producers, directors, script writers from China and ASEAN countries have been invited to the film festival," he told a press conference after launching the AIFFA 2015 at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) here Monday. Abang Johari also remarked that Malaysia had a dual role, not only as AIFFA host, but also as ASEAN chairman, adding that the film festival was a move towards the set up of the ASEAN Community at the end of the year. "That is also the reason why we are so keen about this event, it is not only a regional effort for Sarawak, but also involves national effort," he said. According to the AIFFA 2015 press release, AIFFA is endorsed by the ASEAN 10 tourism ministers as the film festival for the region. The festival is backed by the Sarawak Tourism Ministry, foreign ministry and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas). Abang Johari said in addition to the biannual film festival to celebrate the best of films in the ASEAN region, an ASEAN Fashion Show would be held to portray the rich culture, traditions and heritage of ASEAN countries. AIFFA 2015 will kick off with the Biz World Film Seminar & Exhibition at the Sarawak Tourism Complex, Movies in the Rainforest (a 12-hour movie marathon screened at the Sarawak Cultural Village) and AIFFA 2015 Gala Dinner and Awards. Korean film celebrities with a delegation of 11 directors will also be joining the festvival while a recce from the internationally popular Running Man series will be checking out the Bakun Dam as a possible location for its next series. AIFFA 2015 will also feature K-pop star Nolza at the Sarawak Cultural Village and at the gala dinner. -- BERNAMA
