Arab Princess Drama 'Julia Domna' Opens Tonight at Katara

Doha, June 06 (QNA) - Dance drama 'Julia Domna' which portrays the active role of women through ages opens tonight 8pm at the Katara Drama Theatre (Building No 16). The three-hour show, presented by Enana Dance Theatre, attempts, through a mix of drama, dance, and expression, to take the audience outside the framework of time and place to feel the depth of Arab history, by highlighting the life of an Arab princess named Julia Domna. The story revolves around Julia who falls in love with Roman emperor Septimus Severus during his Middle Eastern army's parade in Homs. Following the couple's wedding, the emperor has to rush to Rome to save the city from the armies of the barbarians. Septimus wins, but traitor, Macrinus, who has connived with the barbarians, plots against the emperor and assassinates him. Sadness fills the heart of Julia Domna following the death of her husband as she returns to her family in Syria. Through the work the audience sees a vivid picture of a woman who was a patron of science, the emperor's companion during his military campaigns, and ever a support to her husband. The finale of the play features a dance performance reflecting Arab culture from the Atlantic Ocean to the Arabian Gulf. The drama will be held up to June 9 at the same time. (QNA)
