Baku, November 18, AZERTAC An international scientific conference on "Expanding the horizons of cooperation between the countries of Central Asia, Azerbaijan and Türkiye: the Silk Road – Serial Transnational UNESCO Nominations" was held in the ancient city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, organized by the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and the International Institute of Central Asian Studies (IICAS), with the support of the Scientific Research Center of the Silk Road Cultural Heritage. The event took place on the sidelines of the 9th Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States. The main goal of the symposium is to discuss the influence of the Great Silk Road on the historical and cultural development of Eurasia in ancient times and the Middle Ages, the implementation of joint projects, and the strengthening of cooperation between the countries of Central Asia, Azerbaijan and Türkiye on these topics, as well as a broad exchange of views on the perspectives of UNESCO's Silk Road serial transnational projects. In her opening remarks, the President of the Foundation, Gunay Afandiyeva, highlighted the importance of organizing a symposium on the sidelines of the 9th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, which was held in Samarkand, an ancient cultural center located on the historical Silk Road. The President of the Foundation assessed these events as steps aimed at further strengthening the solidarity between the brotherly Turkic states. Speaking about the significance of the Silk Road, Gunay Afandiyeva noted that this route played the role of a bridge between the East and the West, contributing to cultural exchange between the peoples living in those areas, and also emphasized the importance of strengthening interstate cooperation in this field within the framework of new realities. Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan Huseyn Guliyev, Consul General of Türkiye in Samarkand Salih Janer, Adviser to the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Uzbekistan Nurlan Dzhumaliyev, as well as Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kismet Gezalov, Secretary General of TurkPA Mehmet Süreyya Er, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, Acting President of the International Turkic Academy Fuzuli Majidli, stressed the significance of the cooperation of the Turkic states in the fields related to the Silk Road, both historical and modern. In the second part of the symposium, full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, academician Shahin Mustafayev, historian scientist Farda Asadov, full member of the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences, academician Baurjan Baytanayev, scientist-archaeologist of Kyrgyzstan Bakit Amambayeva, director of the International Institute of Central Asian Studies Dmitriy Voyakin, acting director of the Institute of Archeology of Uzbekistan named after Yahyo Gulyamov, Mominkhon Saidov and others made speeches, expressed the practical importance of the nominations of the Silk Road series, and exchanged views on the possibilities of expanding their geographical scope at the present stage, as well as implementing them in the entire Turkic world. Additionally, a presentation ceremony of the book "Azerbaijan on the Silk Road" published by the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation in Russian and English was held as part of the international scientific symposium. The book is the first part of the large-scale project "Turkic States on the Great Silk Road" implemented by the Foundation. In conclusion, the participants adopted a resolution on the work of the symposium.
