M F Husain's documentary screened at India film festival

Panaji (Goa, India) Dec 1 (PTI) Legendary Indian painter M F Husain's documentary "Through the Eyes of a Painter" was screened at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here Wednesday amid heavy security. Right-wing organisations had threatened to demonstrate outside Kala Academy, where the documentary, a film on the late artist's own journey, was screened. Cops were posted at the venue to avoid any untoward incident. "Everyone entering the premises were frisked as security agencies didn't want to take any chance," Superintendent of Police (Security) Tony Fernandes said. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had demanded that the screening, a tribute to the 95-year-old celebrated painter who died in June, be cancelled. Protesters, who had said that they would be gathering in large numbers at the venue, did not turn up. The organisers had earlier postponed the screening scheduled for November 27 following which demonstrations in support of Husain had been witnessed. PTI
