Malaysia's Local Group Fresco Harmonica To Promote Its Music

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's local group Fresco Harmonica which won five awards at the World Harmonica Festival in Trossingen, Germany wants to promote harmonica music among the young generation in the country. The group of 10 youths aged between 19 and 28, beat 1,500 other participants from more than 30 countries at the festival held on Oct 30 until Nov 3. Group leader Aiden Soon said their success proved that harmonica music from Malaysia was well received by the world community, and the government, particularly through the Tourism and Culture ministry should promote it locally. "Music produced by the harmonica has its own special character and we got our inspiration from the various arts and culture of our diverse community," he told a media conference here Monday. Fresco Harmonica was champion in the Group Harmonica and Harmonica Open categories and second in the Duet and Trio categories. Meanwhile, one of the members, Jyne Lim said the group would promote harmonica music in primary schools besides holding a roadshow in future. --BERNAMA
