US photographer Kolnik presents Balanchine photos to Moscow museum
MOSCOW, June 27 (Itar-Tass) - U.S. photographer Paul Kolnik will present his works at A. A. Bakhrushin theatre museum in the exhibition devoted to the famous choreographer George Balanchine called Touch the Eternity.
“Paul Kolnik has been photographing the New York City Ballet - lessons, rehearsals and performances - for forty years. It is he who captured on film the excellence of Balanchine’s unique ballets,” the museum told Itar-Tass on Friday.
Kolnik did the impossible by stopping the moment and conveying the atmosphere of a great dance in his photographs, the staff of the museum believes.
“Many a detail of the dance elude the viewer but Kolnik captured and preserved them within the frames of a photo shot giving the viewers an opportunity to discern what is usually hidden or remains unnoticed,” they said.
The famous theatre historian Vadim Gayevsky compared Kolnik works to “an exhibition of antic molds” with “the same clarity of plastic form”.
“We see the same perfect clarity, the same poeticized and praised physicality. No romantic exaggerations, no rough contrasts, only the cautiously outlined light and shade, only the distinctly shown picture. Paul Kolnik is a master of line,” Gaevsky said.
Kolnik will come to Moscow on June 29 to open the exhibition and gift the exhibits to the theatre museum.
The exhibition will open on July 3 in the museum’s branch, M.N. Ermolova museum house on Tverskoy boulevard in the centre of Moscow.
