By M.Santhiran
NEW DELHI, June 19 (Bernama) -- Residents here and other major cities are experiencing better weather conditions over the past few days while the west coast of India especially in Mumbai and Pune are hit by heavy monsoon rains at the same time.
The southern states of Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh and Telenggana are also experiencing the much waited monsoon season.
Here in the capital, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted the temperature to be hovering around 37 to 39 celsius between Saturday to Tuesday.
The department forecasted the temperature to dip further below 35 celsius in a week's time.
Two weeks ago, heat waves resulted in more than 2,500 deaths especially in the state of Andra Pradesh and Telenggana with the temperature soaring to 47 celsius resulting in water shortage and power failures in the capital.
In some areas of the states, temperatures recorded were as high as 48 and 49 celsius which resulted in labourers and homeless vulnerable to heatstrokes.
Meanwhile, Times of Inidia reported heavy rain in Mumbai affected the train services and forced local authority to order more schools to be closed.
"Schools are closed on account of heavy rains. Thankfully we used flipped classroom. Videos will come handy," posted RN Podar, principal of Avnita Bir on Facebook to spread the word.
The daily quoted the Archdiocesan Board of Education (ABE) which governs over 150 schools that principals could decide to shut the schools depending on the condition in the area.
