Malaysian Company Ronser Bio-Tech Invited To Explore Mauritius’ Water Treatment Market

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- Ronser Bio-Tech Bhd has been invited by the Mauritius government to explore the possibility of implementing its innovative wastewater management solutions for the country’s tourism, manufacturing and aquaculture industries. Ronser is an integrated wastewater treatment solutions specialist offering multi-disciplinary environmental services in wastewater treatment. In a statement Thursday, the Malaysian company said currently, the three key industries mentioned are required to treat their wastewater according to the standards stipulated by the government. Chairman Woo Min Fong said the company is able to enhance the whole process as its expertise ranges from technological advisory, engineering design to construction-installation, operation and maintenance with high performance in wastewater treatment facility. At present, about 48 hotels in Mauritius are known to be treating their wastewater via the activated sludge process and rotational biological contactors. About 3.5 million m3 of treated wastewater is generated per year from these hotels. "The bigger manufacturing companies with a large amount of wastewater debit are also required to conduct preliminary water treatment prior to the discharge. "In addition, with the forecasted development in the aquaculture industry in Mauritius, it is more important for the wastewater to be managed efficiently," she added. As of 2012, 29 per cent of the Mauritian population was connected to the public sewer network and the remaining 71 per cent used on-site wastewater disposal systems. Under Mauritius’ National Sewerage Master Plan which provides a complete scheme for the development of the wastewater sector in the country, more than 80 per cent of the population is targeted to be connected to the sewerage system by 2033. "This represents about 80 million m3 of waste water to be treated annually," Woo said. --BERNAMA
