Unhealthy Air Quality In Three Areas In Peninsular Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- Only three areas -- Muar, Bukit Rambai and Port Klang -- registered unhealthy air quality this morning compared to five on Monday, according to the Department of Environment (DoE). The DoE said in its website that as at 9 am, the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading for Muar was 113; Bukit Rambai, 115 and Port Klang, 104. However, the API had improved since the reading at 7 am, which was 116 for Muar; 118 for Bukit Rambai and 105 for Port Klang, it added. Meanwhile, 43 other areas in Peninsular Malaysia had a moderate API, including six where the air quality approached the unhealthy status, namely Banting (92) and Nilai, Shah Alam, Kemaman, Cheras and Putrajaya (90 each). The air quality in Sandakan and Tawau in East Malaysia state of Sabah and Sarikei, Sibu and Sri Aman in East Malaysia state of Sarawak was good. The air pollution level is categorised as hazardous when the reading is 301 or more; very unhealthy at 201 to 300; unhealthy at 101 to 200; moderate at 51 to 100 and good at zero to 50. -- BERNAMA
