EU needs Turkey, Slovenian Prime Minister says

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 04.03.2011 - Prime Minister of Slovenia Borut Pahor said Friday that the European Union (EU) needed Turkey.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Turkey-Slovenia Business Forum in north-western province of Istanbul, Pahor said that Turkey and the EU needed to come together for the benefit of the two sides.
"This way we can facilitate peace and stability. Turkish-EU relations are crucial for the welfare of the continent," Pahor said.
We held a constructive meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday and decided to establish strategic partnership between Turkey and Slovenia. This is an indication that we have entered a new cultural, economic and political term. I believe that this is the beginning of a close cooperation, Pahor stressed.
I appreciate Turkey's achievements. Turkey will not remain merely as a regional super power but perhaps become one of the top ten economies of the world in the next decade, Pahor said.
Prime Minister Erdogan will visit Slovenia in several months. Such a visit is an indication of the determination for cooperation, Pahor said.
Touching on the importance of Turkey's accession into the EU, Pahor said that, with its different culture and many differences, Turkey will make contributions to the Union.
We will do everything possible to make Slovenia attractive for investors. Slovenia is a Schengen country. It has good political and economic relations with the countries of the region. It is a small but promising country. If you want to do business in Europe, we invite you to Slovenia, Pahor said.
The investors of our two countries can make joint investments in Russia. We want to open up to new markets. Turkey is a crucial country for us and our construction sector, Pahor added.
