First Turkey-assembled locomotive for U.S. General Electric introduced
ESKISEHIR (A.A) - 28.02.2011 - U.S. General Electric and TULOMSAS, Turkey's state-owned locomotive manufacturer, on Monday showcased the first GE PowerHaul Locomotive assembled in Turkey from components manufactured at GE's plant in Erie, Pennsylvania.
In 2008, TULOMSAS and GE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a partnership to collaborate to supply the market with GE's PowerHaul locomotives.
Under the terms of the agreement, GE will supply TULOMSAS with leading technology and material to assemble the locomotives in Turkey for the European, Middle East and North African markets. TULOMSAS will manufacture 30 PowerHaul locomotives for the GE and 20 others for the TCDD, Turkey's state-run railways company.
"This first locomotive demonstrates the valuable technology and knowledge transfer from GE as well as the manufacturing capabilities, knowledge, skills and manufacturing quality of TÜLOMSAŞ. The locomotive is scheduled for a year-long testing program in Turkey in preparation for expanded operations as well as demonstrations for potential customers," GE said in a press release.
