Gas Leak In Factory Kills Nine People In India's Punjab State
NEW DELHI, April 30 (Bernama) -- At least nine people were killed and 11 taken ill after a gas leak in a factory in India's Punjab state on Sunday.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel and police were on the spot to deal with the situation, state Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann tweeted.
The incident took place in the morning in the Giaspura area of Ludhiana, about 320 km from New Delhi.
The factory where the gas leak occurred makes dairy products, a television channel reported.
Some bodies were found on the road and many residents of the neighbourhood fled in panic, local media reported.
One man said five of his family members were unconscious.
"The source of the leakage and the type of gas are yet to be ascertained," news agency PTI reported, citing local officials.
