“The Strayed” movie released
Almaty, October 15, 2009 (Khabar) - Kazakhstan’s first thriller called “The Strayed” has been released with 26 copies of the motion picture distributed among the Republic’s cinemas. Then, the movie producers want to show the film in Russia and Europe. The idea of making a real thriller belongs to director Akan Satayev. When he received the first script he took the decision to invite Russian movie star Andrei Merzlikin. The actor immediately replied yes despite knowing he would have to live in the steppe for one month. Now, the Russian actor says he got a lot of experience during the making of the movie and he hopes he continues collaborating wit Kazakhstan’s movie makers.
Andrei Merzlikin, actor:
- I was welcomed like an honored guest in your hospitable country. Here, I would always be fed with loads of tasty food despite the director saying I had to lose some weight. It is impossible to lose some weight here, I think.
The makers of The Strayed say the movie will be holding the audience intensely throughout the film. The main character, his wife and the son get stuck on a small inter-city road. The following morning, the main character found out that his family disappeared. The actor also says there was enough mystic behind the scene. In one of the takes, he was to be beaten. In order to protect his body, Merzlikin asked for books to be wrapped around his body.
Andrei Merzlikin, actor:
- A Fyodor Dostoyevsky book was on my lift side. The second book that I used was the Gospel. Now, could you please explain to me how this book appeared to be in the steppe? It is just something I cannot explain really. It is the matter of metaphysics.
The film director does not expect the motion picture to bring much income. He is basically interested in film festival awards for the movie while cinema owners would like to see many people come to see the motion picture in cinemas.
Baurzhan Shukenov, film distributor:
- I am really worried because now it is necessary for us that the spectator has come and has looked this cinema. If he comes, not leave during the movie, sit till the end. It is very disturbing film for us because many things are for the first time here.
Despite record terms of shootings and modest budget many critics designate success to “The Strayed”. Maybe because the movie does not copy Hollywood but is made from the heart of director and for the soul of spectator.
