“Attention – children!” campaign starts in Astana
Astana, August 22, 2009 (Khabar) - Capital’s medical men and traffic policemen initiated it because of growth of number of road accidents with children’s participation. They appeal to everybody to be more attentive to the problem of infant’s traumatism on roads. Pupil Yelaman was run onto by the car at the pedestrian crossing and he was in coma for 4 days and survived by a miracle. He will recover completely only in 2 years. Ramina suffered from a drunken driver and also was hospitalized.
End of summer is period of tense work because number of accidents with children’s participation increased during this period. According to statistics, 18 000 people with 80% of them being kids die in Kazakhstan every year.
Zharylkasyn Bektasov, deputy of traumatology department of children’s clinical hospital №2 in Astana:
- Children got such traumas near the schools because traffic lights are set up not everywhere and speed regime is observed not everywhere. The drivers drove the transport in a drunken condition and some drivers have little experience but despite this they drive transport. Sometimes drivers have no driving licenses and people mustn’t be so indifferent.
Marat Tuyakbayev, head of department of interior affairs of Astana:
- I always explain my elder daughter how and at which places she must cross the road. And she knows this since her childhood. I do this to preserve her life and health.
Alisher, pupil of 4th form knows traffic rules since his studying in the first form. He says it is necessary to cross the road very attentively. At present the traffic policemen toughen patrolling near kindergartens and schools, renew traffic striping and settle warning signs. Plaster casts of running children will appear on roadsides soon.
