“Cobra Gold 12” held in Thailand
NAKHON RATCHASIMA, February 8 (TNA) - Over 13,000 military personnel from 17 countries are participating in the annual US-led military exercise under the code name “Cobra Gold 12” (CG-12) in Thailand, which started on February 7.
Combat personnel from Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and the United States are taking part in the 10-day military drill at a military base in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand's Northeast.
Other countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, France, Italy, Nepal, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and Vietnam are participating in the drill's Multinational Planning Augmentation Team (MPAT); while Brunei, China and Laos have sent their observers.
As the largest military drill in Southeast Asia, the United States'Asia-Pacific Command has sent nearly 9,000 military personnel to the 31st Cobra Gold, Washington's longest-standing military exercise in the Asian-Pacific region. Thailand’s 3,400 military personnel are representing in the exercises.
Besides live-fire training, non-combatant evacuation exercises and a computer-simulated command-post exercise are also featured at this year's Cobra Gold drills. (TNA)
