“Last Days of Winter” wins best doc award at Geneva festival

TEHRAN,May 12(MNA) -- The Iranian documentary “The Last Days of Winter” by Mehrdad Oskuii has won the best doc award at the International Oriental Film Festival (FIFOG), which was held from April 28 to May 6 in Geneva. The documentary is about seven Iranian boys talking candidly about their lives in a youth detention center. The members of jury described it as a movie whose “directional style liberates the discourse of the children interviewed as they express themselves with both emotion and confidence.” Daniel Schweizer (Switzerland), Gérard Bejjani (France) and Catherine Kammermann (Switzerland) were jury members of this section of festival. “The Last Days of Winter” won the BlackBerry Award at the 24th International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) last year. “Lipstick” by Peyman Mo’adi, “A Cozy Place for the Fish” by Naser Zamiri, “The Slap” by Ehsan Amani and “Afar” by Puya Parsamaqam was other Iranian entries at the International Oriental Film Festival. The 7th edition of the International Oriental Film Festival in Geneva - organized by the FIFOG (Festival International du Film Oriental de Geneva) Association - will be presenting some of the most original and innovative films from both the East and the West.
