“Play Strindberg” to go on stage in memory of Hamid Samandarian

TEHRAN -- Iranian actress and director Homa Rusta planned to stage the Swiss dramatist Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s “Play Strindberg” in memory of her late husband, the prominent director Hamid Samandarian. The play will be performed by Rusta, Reza Kianian and Payam Dehkordi at Tehran’s Iranshahr Theater Complex in October. The play was scheduled to be staged by Samandarian in the fall 2012. However, he died of liver cancer on July 11. Samandarian had previously directed the play in 1972 and 1999 in Tehran’s theaters. The play is a free adaptation of August Strindberg’s marriage tragedy “The Dance of Death”, using Strindberg’s characters. “Play Strindberg” is a black comedy in which Dürrenmatt’s satirical look at the trials and tribulations of a partnership deals with love, hate, opportunism, paranoia and death.
