“Shooting Under Fire” published in Persian
TEHRAN,May 9(MNA) -- The Persian translation of “Shooting Under Fire: The World of the War Photographer”, a book containing firsthand accounts from ten of the world’s leading war photographers, has been recently been published in Iran.
The information of the book have been collected by Peter Howe, a former war photographer himself who then became a picture editor for the New York Times Magazine, the director of photography for Life, and finally vice president of photography at Corbis.
The English version was published by Artisan Books, the U.S. publisher based in New York City, in 2002.
The book, which was translated into Persian by Solmaz Haddian, has been offered by Iranian publishing company Saqi at the 25th Tehran International Book Fair.
“Shooting Under Fire” contains a series of ten monologues by ten war photographers Patrick Chauvel, Philip Jones Griffiths, Ron Haviv, Catherine Leroy, Don McCullin, Susan Meiselas, Christopher Morris, James Natchwey, Maggie Steber, and Laurent van der Stockt.
They discussed about what led them to become photographers and the changes they underwent while doing their jobs.
Over 150 black and white and color photos from wars in locations from Vietnam to Haiti, Ramallah to Chechnya, El Salvador to Sarajevo, and the World Trade Center to Afghanistan have also been published in the original book.
The photos have been annotated with descriptions of their subjects and with very personal reflections from the photographers about the nature of their work.
Most of the images have previously been published on the covers or in the pages of the most prestigious magazines and daily newspapers.
