“Standart&Poor’s” report on transparency of Kazakhstani companies

Astana, October 14, 2009 (Khabar) - “Standart&Poor’s” International rating agency has presented report on informational transparency of Kazakhstani companies. Such investigation is carried out for the first time in our country. Experts estimated level of informational openness and corporate transparency of more than 30 largest companies in Kazakhstan, including “Samruk-Kazyna” and its subsidiaries.
According to “Standart&Poor’s” an index of Kazakhstani companies’ transparency is 44 per cent. In developed countries this index is more than 70 per cent. The most transparent companies considered by the agency are “Exploration Extraction KazMunayGaz”, ENRC, “Kazakhmys”, “Kazkommercbank” and Kazakhstan Development Bank. Corporate websites and annual reports of companies have made up the investigational base. Estimation criteria: transparency of financial and operational documents, structure of property and limited volume of information.

Oleg Shvyrkov, the deputy director of rating service corporate governance, «Standart and Poor’s»:
- Our research is constructed with prospect of information requirements of the international external investor. We do not analyze a transparency of the company for its principal shareholder. If the company by the results of our analysis has got a low point of a transparency it means that it is difficult to external user to spend analytics concerning this company on the basis of public access information.

Ruslan Dalenov, the vice-minister, Ministry of Finance of RK:
- Conclusions will be made, and not dot recommendations concerning each company will be developed, but the system offers on how it is necessary to represent the data in information field more successfully will be developed. It is necessary for the investor to make a decision to invest here or not.
