15 top public toilets win best toilet of the year awards
BANGKOK, Nov 18 (TNA) -- Fifteen toilets win the best toilet of the year awards in the lead-up to the World Toilet Day as officials have found 70% of public toilets meet standards.
On the occasion of the United Nations’ World Toilet Day on Nov 19, authorities selected 15 good public toilets for the awards. They were among hundreds of toilet entries nominated from all regions of the country.
Awards go to the toilets of the Department of Social Development and Welfare, the public health office of Yasothon province, the Phrae police station, the Patong municipality, the Tambon Thab Rad administrative organization, General Hospital, Tambon Muang Ngam Hospital in Songkhla province, the Khon Kaen National Museum, Ampawa vocational college, Wat Chakrawat School, New Kai Yang Buatong restaurant in Phetchabun province, Diana Complex shopping center, Kudchum Oil Co in Yasothon, Wat Dharmayan in Phetchabun, and Vachirabenjatas public park in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district.
Dr Wachira Pengjan, director-general of the Health Department, said the department and partners were implementing a master plan to improve public toilets at government offices, schools, hospitals, wet markets, tourist destinations, restaurants, gas stations, public parks, religious places, department stores, bus terminals, airports and roadside toilets. The plan covers standard toilets for the elderly and people with disabilities.
He said that the plan implementation in the past decade resulted in 71.04% of public toilets meeting standards. (TNA)
