16 000 people apply for Kazakhstan citizenship

Astana, September 18 2009, Khabar – In Astana, the Secretary of State and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kanat Saudabayev, held a joint sitting of three state commissions. The commission on citizenship issues considered the applications of 16 thousand people willing to become Kazakhstan citizens. Kanat Saudabayev also said that a positive balance of migration registered over the past 10 years proves that rights and freedoms of people in Kazakhstan are strictly observed. The Republican commission on training staff abroad is now considering the applications of 300 candidates. 143 of them entered universities worldwide while 157 took part in a general contest. Most of applicants would like to study in Great Britain, the USA and Switzerland.

Kulyash Shamshitdinova, deputy minister for education and science of RK:
- 254 people were granted the Bolashak scholarship. 46 applications were rejected as they failed to pass all stages of the contest. In order to get a Bolashak scholarship, candidates should successfully pass English and Kazakh language and psychological tests as well as an interview with an independent experts’ commission.

The state science and technics awards commission took place as well. 16 works were nominated with only three of them reaching the final. The winners are the projects in the sphere of nuclear physics, mineral resources development and mathematics.
