16 Malaysians Off To Makkah For Haj Pilgrimage By Land

KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 (Bernama) -- Sixteen Malaysian nationals in four four wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles will leave the federal capital Tuesday on a 16,000 kilometre expedition by land to Makkah to perform the Haj pilgrimage. They are participants of the “Kembara Inspirasi Haji 2017" organised by an organisation known as “Pertubuhan Kembara Amal (#PeKA). #PeKA chairman Khir Ariffin said during the 35-day journey through Thailand, Laos, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and United Arab Emirates before arriving in Saudi Arabia, the participants would stop at about 30 locations to hand over contributions to selected quarters. He said the the contributions were raised though public donations . "The first place is a madrasah tahfiz in Penang tomorrow (Tuesday) before we cross the Malaysian border where we will spend the night in Hatyai before continuing with the journey the following day,” he told a media conference at the flagging-off of the expedition at Wisma Bernama here Monday. The participants, comprising 14 men and two women, were flagged-off by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) general manager Zulkefli Salleh. Also in the expedition were Bernama News Channel (BNC) chief assignment editor Abdul Rahman Ahmad and cameraman Ahmad Shahuri Mat Jaan. Khir said those wishing to contribute to the expedition could do so through Maybank account 562405610940. Meanwhile, Zulkefli (fourth from right) thanked #PeKA for inviting Bernama to join in the expedition which would be aired by BNC through a 13-episodes documentary. BNC is a 24-hour international news and current affairs television network in Malaysia, owned by Bernama, a government news agency.
