19th MSC Meeting To Discuss Key Issues On Haze Prevention Measures

By Massita Ahmad SINGAPORE, May 17 (Bernama) -- The 19th Meeting of the Sub-Regional Ministerial Steering Committee (MSC) on Transboundary Haze Pollution to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday is expected to discuss key issues pertaining to haze prevention measures in the five MSC countries. In a statement here, the Singapore Ministry of Environment and Water Resources said it would include the implementation of the ASEAN Sub-Regional Haze Monitoring System, mobilisation of regional and international assistance to support fire-fighting efforts and the exchange of information among countries. The ministerial-level MSC, comprising Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand will continue to review and enhance cooperative measures to monitor, prevent and mitigate smoke haze arising from land and forest fires in the five countries, it said. Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Masagos Zulkifli will attend the meeting. -- BERNAMA
