1Malaysia Menu Eateries Doing Well, None Went Bankrupt
KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Eateries serving low-priced
food under the 1Malaysia menu (MR1M) are doing well as they attract more
customers, and none of them have become bankrupt, said Domestic Trade,
Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
It is understood that their profits are increasing because of the large
number of customers, which is better than selling at high prices but having no
customers at all, he told a news conference after launching the Sarawak level
consumerism movement for undergraduates and presenting MR1M certificates at
University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) here Monday.
Ismail Sabri said that so far 1,314 eateries nationwide provided food under
MR1M, and the target is to reach 3,000 eateries by the end of this year.
He also said that so far 40 institutions of higher learning have agreed to
participate in the MR1M programme, and 76 cafetarias in such institutions served
such food.
The ministry will assist the participants in terms of promotion, including
announcing the names of the eateries on its website, he added.
