38,880 Immigrants Deported Since January - Immigration D-G

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 38,880 illegal immigrants have been deported to their countries of origin between January and Sept 17 this year, according to Immigration Department director-general Mustafar Ali. He said Indonesians, Myanmarese and Bangladeshis made up the highest number after being arrested for various offences, including overstaying and abusing social visit passes. “There are still many of them at the detention depots. “The department had also received good cooperation from their embassies for the deportation process,” he told a press conference after the dialogue and seminar on current Immigration issues and recruitment of foreign workers at the Customs Complex in Kelana Jaya, near here Tuesday. On the E-Card Mega Ops, he said 13,000 illegal immigrants and 312 employers had been detained since the commencement of the operation on July 1. Mustafar said most of the immigrants were detained in the Klang Valley and had worked in the construction and service sectors. -- BERNAMA
