3rd RU ASEAN Film Festival and Conference 2018 held this week

BANGKOK, Sept 17 (TNA) -- Ram Kamhaeng University is hosting the 3rd RU ASEAN Film Festival and Conference 2018 from September 19 - 21. This year's theme 'Women in Asia' highlights contemporary issues facing Asian women. The event will be held on Ram Kamhaeng campus and the official opening ceremony will be held on September 19 where Ms Pimpaka Towira, a local film director will be presented with the RAFF 2018 Professional Achievement Award. Following this Ms Pimpaka will give a dissertation titled 'Women in the Asian Film Industry'. Her film titled ' The Island and the Funeral' will be later be screened to signify the official commencement of the event. This year's theme focuses on contemporary themes but also sheds light on historic, cultural, societal issues faced by all generations of Asian women not least of which is the current urgent matter of cross-border movement of the female workforce. September 20's schedule includes the showing of 'The Last Reel' directed by Cambodian director Ms Kulikar Sotho, 'Dearest Sister' directed by Ms. Mattie Do from Laos and 'Berbar's Tale' directed by Mr Rodolfo Jr Robles Lana from the Philippines. September 21's itinerary includes the showing of 'Muallaf' by Malaysian director Ms Jasmin Ahmad and 'Marlina, the Murderer in Four Acts' directed by Ms Mouly Surya from Indonesia. All films have Thai subtitles and are open for public viewing free-of-charge. (TNA)
