49 Women Saved From Becoming Human Trafficking Victims
SEREMBAN (Negeri Sembilan), Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Police rescued 49 foreign women from being victims of human trafficking in a raid on an entertainment centre in Taman Koop, in the state of Negeri Sembilan, Wednesday night.
Seremban district police chief ACP Thiew Hock Poh said in the raid at 7.45pm, police also detained a 27-year-old man, who was the caretaker of the premises.
"The victims were female foreigners, aged between 18 and 46, possessed social visit passes and were forced to work at illegal entertainment centres as guest relation officers (GROs).
"They were rescued following intelligence while 39 clients aged between 20 and 40, were remanded to assist in investigations," he said in a press conference at the Seremban Police Headquarters here Thursday.
The items seized included a business record book, walkie-talkie, condoms and cash worth RM970.
Of the 49 victims, six tested positive for drugs and would be investigated under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the caretaker of the premises was remanded and investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking In Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
All the clients were released after giving their statements.
