500th anniversary of folk epic poem "Kyz Zhibek"

Astana, 22 October 2008, (Khabar) - Concert dedicated to this event was held in Astana's "Congress-Hall". History of tragic love of beauty Zhibek and warrior Tolegen was composed 500 years ago. They are called as Kazakh Romeo and Juliet. The plot was performed in theater, ballet, opera and in 1970-s the film was shot.

Kiyakpai Asanbayev, soloist of Baiseitova National Theater of Opera and
Ballet:
- Sure, we can lose some things but due to epic poem we try to adhere to our
traditions, which are passed from our ancestors.

The first Kazakh opera on the basis of this epic poem, was sung in 1934 and
this story is still attractive. Role of beauty Zhibek became very important
in life of opera singer Nurzhamal Usenbayeva as her career was begun just
from this role.

Nurzhamal Usenbayeva, people's artist of RK, laureate of State Award:
- The great Gabit Musrepov went out the stage after the play and thanked me
and other singers and said "My Zhibek must be the same, as you showed her".
Of course, those words were like a blessing for me.

The artists think it is a great honor to perform in this epic poem and all
of them didn't hide their emotions. Zhanat Shybykbayev, honorary artist of
RK says when he plays the role of Bekezhan, he feels power and force and
this story is immortal. UNESCO will celebrate the anniversary of "Kyz
Zhibek" Kazakh epic poem. And it means this epic is known and loved not
only in Kazakhstan but also abroad.
