63 drowned in Caspian Sea in four months

TEHRAN, July 25 (MNA) - Head of the rescue department of the Iranian Red Crescent Society said on Tuesday that since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 20, 63 people have lost their lives in the Caspian Sea. For example, Mahmoud Mozafar said, during the past 16 days there were 66 drowning incidents out of which 50 were saved and 16 lost their lives. “From July 5 to July 21 of this year 1,675 rescue operations have been performed,” Mozafar explained. He added, “During this period, in Mazandaran Province, 1,144 costal rescue operations were performed which saved 19 people out of 23. In Gilan Province we had 511 operations that out of 43 drowning cases we were able to save 31 and transfer 11 to hospitals. In Golestan Province there were only two rescue operations and the swimmers were saved.”
