6th AMCDRR concluded in Bangkok

BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) - The 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) has been concluded in Bangkok, with an agreement on joint efforts toward quick recovery from disasters in Asia and the Pacific. At the end of the 6th AMCDRR, held at the CentralWorld shopping complex in the capital from June 22-26, representatives of 63 participating countries introduced the Bangkok Declaration to enable the Asian Pacific region to cope with and recover quickly from disasters. Representing Thailand, Acting Permanent Secretary for the Prime Minister's Office ML Panadda Diskul, who is also Deputy Permanent Secretary for Interior, proclaimed the 6th AMCDRR successful, as the participants from 63 countries, including ministers and office heads responsible for disasters exchanged views and experiences useful for the collective reduction of disaster risks in the region. ML Panadda noted that results from the 6th AMCDRR will be proposed as part of the second-phase Hyogo framework for disaster risk reduction and will also be presented at the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Japan's Sendai City in March 2015. Thailand's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, then concluded that the 6th AMCDRR was aimed at empowering the Asian Pacific region to cope with disasters and promoting investment in disaster responses, while countries in the region will later conduct joint relevant research projects to support the empowerment.
