AA director general attends European new agencies meeting in Geneva
GENEVA (A.A) - September 22, 2011 - Director general and deputy director general of Anadolu Agency (AA) participated in a meeting of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) in Geneva, Switzerland on Thursday.
Director General and Executive Board Chairman Kemal Ozturk and Deputy Director General Tahsin Akti are representing AA in the meeting on "News Agencies and Social Media Competition".
New agencies are discussing their social media experiences and strategies they will follow from now on.
EANA member agencies said that agencies should give up their so far approaches to social media, and adopt a double-sided dialogue with customers.
They stressed that news agencies should start providing multi-dimensional contents that can engage users in new media environments like tablets.
Making the opening remarks of the meeting, EANA's President and director general of Finnish News Agency Mika Pettersson introduced AA Director General Kemal Ozturk to all member agencies, and welcomed him.
Ozturk held bilateral talks with executives of some EANA members and discussed joint projects.
EANA members will hold their general assembly on Friday.
Founded on August 21, 1956 in connection with a conference on new media technology held in Strasbourg, EANA's founding fathers were West European news agencies, Anadolu Agency (Turkey) and Tanjug (Yugoslavia). In 1970, agencies behind the so called "iron curtain" were invited to join.
EANA serves as a forum for cooperation and exchange of information and experiences among European news agencies.
