About 50 blacktip sharks live in the Maya Bay

KRABI, Nov 30 (TNA) – About 50 blacktip sharks have been seen living in the Maya Bay as it has been closed to tourists for six months for ecosystem rehabilitation. The Marine National Park Operation Center in Trang province released the pictures of a lot of blacktip sharks off the beach in the Maya Bay within the territory of the Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park in Krabi province The Maya Bay has been closed to tourists since June 1 for ecosystem rehabilitation. No activities are allowed there. Corals are restoring their natural conditions in the bay and many blacktip sharks have returned as they are not disturbed and marine resources are improving there. Marine resource specialist Thon Thamrongnawasawat said in his Facebook page that researchers used a drone to picture the sharks and estimated they numbered about 50. The number shows that the Maya Bay becomes the place with the biggest population of blacktip sharks in Thailand. He also said that Maya should also be one of a few places of similar sizes in the world with such a dense population of sharks. Most spotted blacktip sharks stayed in the bay without leaving for elsewhere, he said. A team of researchers is studying their behaviors in the bay. (TNA)
