Activities held to commemorate Thailand's late Princess Mother

CHIANG RAI, THAILAND, October 21 (TNA) - Activities were organized in Thailand on Monday to commemorate the 113th birthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Sri Nagarindra Mahidol, the late Princess Mother of His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was born on October 21. People of hill tribe villages in Chiang Rai Province in the Thai North gathered at the Doi Tung Development Project to hold a traditional ceremony as a remembrance to the late Princess Mother, who initiated the royal development project to improve quality of life of the hill tribe people. In Songkla Province in the Thai South, people offered alms to Buddhist monks in front of the royal monument of the late Princess Mother at Boromaratchachonnani College of Nursing to pay tribute to the late Princess Mother, the royal patronage of the college who had also contributed to the development of Thailand's nursing, health care and social welfare. Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Social Development and Human Security Wichian Chawalit told reporters that the 22nd National Social Welfare Assembly will be organized as part of activities marking the National Social Welfare Day and the Thai Volunteer Day to commemorate the late Princess Mother, who had tirelessly devoted herself for improving the well-being of Thai people. According to the senior official, the main objective of the conference is to seek short-term and long-term solutions to and social assistance for people in need, regarding health and economic problems, covering abused children and women, as well as those affected by persistent unrest in the Thai far South.
