Afghanistan Welcomes Investment, Foreign Expertise To Help Develop Country

HERAT (Afghanistan), Nov 16 (Bernama) -- Afghanistan, under the new government, is now more open and ready to welcome the cooperation of foreign countries in helping to develop the country, said Herat’s Governor Noor Mohammad Islamjar. He said Afghanistan needs foreign investment as well as foreign expertise in science and technology to help the country, which is rich in natural resources such as gas and oil. "We also welcome the sharing of scientific and technological expertise or anything to help develop and improve what this country (Afghanistan) has in the future," he told Bernama through a language interpreter when met here. Noor Mohammad said his party also hopes to establish bilateral relations with Malaysia. Bernama’s journalist Muhammad Afiff Md Adnan, who is one of 14 participants in the Muslim Care Malaysia's (MCM) humanitarian aid mission to Afghanistan, has become one of the first local media personnel to set foot in the country after the Taliban interim government took over. Afghanistan has been in turmoil since the Taliban toppled the government of Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in mid-August following the withdrawal of US troops from the country after 20 years of occupation. The Malaysian government is still taking a wait-and-see approach before recognising Afghanistan's new government. -- BERNAMA
