AGU hosts seminar on charity, voluntary work

Manama, (BNA): The Innovation and Technology Department in the Graduate Studies College in the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) hosted a seminar delivered by Mrs. Mahfoudha Al Zayani, one of the pioneering entrepreneurs in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab World.
In the seminar, Mrs. Al Zayani spoke about the effective role of voluntary and social work in the development of nations, and reviewed her rich personal experiments in this field. She reviewed the vision of the Late Shaikha Lulwa bint Mohammed Al Khalifa in drawing the guidelines of founding the Mother and Child Welfare Society.
Mrs. Al Zayani is one of the well-known faces in the area of social and humanitarian works. She is one of the founding members of the Mother and Child Welfare Society and has participated in numerous social activities and events for over 50 years, and generously contributed to the support and development of voluntary and charity initiatives, societies and groups in the Kingdom. The award of Mrs. Mahfoudha Al Zayani for voluntary work is supervised by Bahrain Voluntary Work Society and is a perfect role-model among the initiatives that seek social innovation encouragement.
Mrs. Al Zayani highlighted in the seminar the history of the society and its leading role in serving social innovation, explaining that the society, through six decades, has successfully developed various kindergartens and child care centres to become charity projects such as Al Amal Special Care Centre, the Kid's Library, the Woman and Child Information Centre and other projects.
Throughout the past few years, the responsibilities of the society, which include caring for needy families and supporting university students, have been passed on to the daughter of Shaikha Lulwa bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Shaikha Hind bint Salman Al Khalifa.
On his part, Professor Awdah Al Jayousi, Head of the Innovation and Technology Department, valued the generous contributions of Mrs. Al Zayani to the Innovation Management doctoral programme at AGU, adding that the programme is considered among the innovative in the Middle East region. He explained that the programme was launched in cooperation with Boston College in the United States of America, and plays an essential role in preparing future leaders of development.
