Al-Jazeera aims to undermine Bahrain human rights achievements, Shura Council

Manama, Sept. 27 (BNA): Shura Council strongly condemned the Qatari Al Jazeera Channel’s adamant attempts to undermine Bahrain’s achievements in the field of human rights through lies and misinformation. It has broadcasts repeated programs alleging that inmates are subjected to torture and has visit prevention. The council praised the statement issued by the Interior Ministry against the channel, and their permanent interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain, stressing the Kingdom’s commitment to international human rights standards to provide services to inmates according to the Correction and Rehabilitation Institution Law. Shura council said that the continuous development in the legislation and laws system in Bahrain, represented in the issuance of laws guaranteeing the protection of human rights, such as the law of restorative justice for children and protecting them from ill-treatment, as well as the expansion of the penal code and alternative measures, negates the allegations made by Al Jazeera about the abuse of some children. The council explained that Al-Jazeera’s desperate attempts aimed to undermine the national cohesion and civilized accomplishments in Bahrain, stressing that Bahraini society is a symbol of coexistence.
