Al-Raya, Al-Sharq Affirm Qatar's Support for Yemen's Security, Stability
Doha, April 03 (QNA) - Al-Raya and Al-Sharq newspapers affirmed in their Sunday editorials that the State of Qatar is keen to end the suffering of the Yemeni people and its belief in the right of Yemenis to live in security and peace.
The two newspapers pointed out that Qatar's position on Yemen remains constant and stemmed from ties of brotherhood, religion and common history.
The newspapers stressed that Qatar always affirmed its continued support to the brotherly Yemeni people to help them overcome the humanitarian difficulties that burden them, noting that Qatar has supported the initiatives and efforts of the United Nations, represented by the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, to advance the solution through dialogue.
The papers added that Qatar remained at the forefront of countries supporting the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and with regard to development support, the total aid provided by Qatar to Yemen from 2013-2020 amounted to approximately USD 195 million.
In its Sunday editorial, Al-Raya believed that Qatari-Yemeni relations have always been an example for the relations between brothers. Qatar was keen to stand by their brothers in many situations and still cherishes such a relationship that translates it into reality by their support in their crises, Al-Raya underlined, explaining that Qatar has never hesitated to extend a helping hand to the brotherly people who are facing exceptional circumstances and successive crises as a result of famine, the health crisis and the security crises that have burdened them.
Qatar welcomed the UN's announcement that the parties to the conflict in Yemen agreed to a two-month truce, which started Saturday, and renewable with the consent of the parties, said the paper. The Qatari position towards brotherly countries has always been consistent and the same is true of Yemen, it added.
Qatar considers this step a motivation for all actors in the Yemeni cause towards a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire and the involvement of all in the comprehensive political track and national reconciliation in order to achieve the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security, stability and prosperity, Al-Raya said, noting that Qatar believes that there is no way to resolve crises around the world except through dialogue based on the GCC Initiative and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Qatari humanitarian aid to brotherly Yemen has not stopped, the paper said, referring to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's directive in July 2021 to allocate USD 100 million in support of the UN World Food Programme in Yemen to support food security and stave off famine there. Qatari support for Yemen reflects the extent of the close, historical and strategic relationship between the two countries, the paper added.
Concluding, Al-Raya emphasized that Qatar supports the Yemeni people and highlighted the Qatari relief aid in Yemen that varied in terms of providing food, as well as integrated health services and development programs, stressing that security, stability, relief and development of Yemen is a top priority for Qatar and its people to enable the Yemenis to build their modern state. Qatar is very keen on Yemen and its people and appeals to the active states in the international community to help the brotherly Yemeni people, the paper added.
Al-Sharq newspaper said that the two-month truce in Yemen which was declared by the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Hans Grundberg has entered into effect on Saturday, amidst a wide GCC, Arab, Islamic and international welcome, as it gives hope for the Yemeni people to resolve the crisis after seven years of war and its harsh repercussions.
Through this truce, which coincides with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, all forms of military operations will be stopped inside Yemen and on the Saudi-Yemeni borders. It is the first since 2016, in which the parties to the conflict agree to stop the fighting, so it would help to build on this step to move forward in reviving political negotiations, the newspaper noted.
The response of all parties to the conflict to this truce and the welcome it received at the regional and international levels, reflects the existence of a political will to move towards the political track, the paper said, adding that in this context, the State of Qatar welcome to the United Nations declaration came in line with its firm position that calls for a solution to the Yemeni crisis based on the Gulf initiative and relevant Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution No. 2216, Al-Sharq said.
Al-Sharq concluded by stressing that the State of Qatar hopes that this step will pave the way for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, and the involvement of all actors in the Yemeni scene with the support of the international community in the comprehensive political track and national reconciliation that leads to ending this conflict, turning the page on war forever and opening the doors of the future to a new Yemen whose people enjoy stability and prosperity.
