Al-Raya Commends Qatar's Strategic Projects to Ensure Energy Security

Doha, June 13 (QNA) - Qatari daily newspaper Al-Raya commended in its Monday editorial the great steps the State of Qatar has taken to maintain its pioneering position as a country that leads global efforts to advance the clean gas industry after QatarEnergy announced that it selected TotalEnergies as its first international partner in the North Field East (NFE) expansion project, the single largest project in the history of the LNG industry.
QatarEnergy's announcement was the culmination of the competitive process that started in 2019 to select QatarEnergy's international partners in the NFE project, the newspaper pointed out, adding that it will expand Qatar's LNG export capacity from the current 77 million tons per annum (MTPA) to 110 MTPA. The USD 28.75 billion NFE project, expected to start production before the end of 2025, employs the highest health, safety, and environmental standards, including carbon capture and sequestration, to reduce the project's overall carbon footprint to the lowest levels possible.
Al-Raya referred to the tireless efforts of Qatar to develop and increase the production capacity of liquefied natural gas, through production expansion projects from the NFE project, which include huge investments in environmentally friendly technologies. When fully operational, it will be the largest of its kind in the LNG industry, the paper said.
Qatar has become, thanks to the wise leadership's directives, the capital of gas production in the world and a factor of security and stability for high production, added the paper.
Al-Raya pointed out that at a time when Qatar has become one of the leading gas exporting countries in the world, it is working at the same time to shift towards clean and renewable energy. By hosting the 6th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in February 2022, Qatar was keen to renew the call for member states for more work and achievement at various levels that secure clean energy sources in support of the green economy at the global level, the paper noted.
The project to develop the NFE project is a great historical achievement for the State of Qatar and the world, as it will provide huge resources, the returns of which will contribute to pushing the development process in Qatar forward through the optimal use of its natural resources and will provide the world with the cleanest and most reliable energy it needs, as well as preserving the environment, the paper said.
Concluding, Al-Raya said that QatarEnergy, as confirmed by HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of QatarEnergy Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, is standing at the threshold of a new era with a stronger commitment to energy transition, providing energy to every corner of the world for a better tomorrow for all.
