Al-Raya Hails Qatar's Commitment to Push Afghan Negotiations Forward

Doha, July 12 (QNA) - In its editorial on Monday, Al-Raya newspaper hailed the active diplomatic movement that Doha is witnessing nowadays, in order to push the Afghan peace negotiations forward, pointing out that all the actors in the Afghan file, led by the Afghan government and the Taliban, believe that only negotiations and serious dialogue can lift Afghanistan out of its crisis and establish peace and security in its territory. The newspaper said that Doha was in direct contact with all parties in order to build on previous gains and move forward to achieve a historic agreement to end the conflict in Afghanistan, noting HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani's meeting yesterday with HE UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy on Afghanistan and Regional Issues Jean Arnault, during which they reviewed the State of Qatar's mediation efforts to achieve stability in light of the current developments, and its commitment to encouraging dialogue between Afghans and working to facilitate peace talks until a just, comprehensive and lasting political settlement is reached in Afghanistan. Al-Raya affirmed that the State of Qatar desires to achieve comprehensive peace, stability and prosperity for the brotherly Afghan people, and for that it has harnessed its mediation and diplomacy to bring the Afghan parties together to engage in a dialogue without any pressure or personal accounts, and provided logistical support for the success of these negotiations. The newspaper expressed optimism that the Afghan parties realize that there is no alternative to dialogue, and that war is not a solution to the country's crises, adding that Doha always affirms that the lessons and experiences of history have proven that military force cannot resolve any conflict in Afghanistan, and that the only way to do so is an immediate and permanent ceasefire and the opening of avenues of constructive dialogue through negotiating table, in order to achieve a comprehensive political settlement among all segments of the Afghan people. Al-Raya concluded that the State of Qatar, which carries the message of peace in the world and leads diplomatic initiatives, believes that peaceful means is the best way to resolve international crises and conflicts noting that Qatar's hosting of the Afghan peace negotiations is an important step towards achieving the desired comprehensive political settlement, ending violence and human suffering in Afghanistan and paving the way to lasting stability and prosperity.
