Al-Sharq Affirms Qatar's Support for Efforts to Stop War in Ukraine

Doha, April 05 (QNA) - In its editorial on Tuesday, Al-Sharq newspaper affirmed Qatar's support for all efforts to stop the war in Ukraine, stressing that Doha urges all parties to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation, and adhere to peaceful and diplomatic means to settle disputes and disagreements between Russia and Ukraine. The newspaper expressed deep concern over the ongoing developments in Ukraine and their humanitarian repercussions, in addition to the dangerous repercussions of the accelerating escalation on peace and security. The newspaper said that the State of Qatar renews its commitment to the principles of foreign policy that is based on adherence to the purposes, principles and provisions of the Charter, including the provisions of Article 2 regarding the settlement of international disputes by peaceful means, and refraining from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any country. The newspaper pointed out that the State of Qatar, from this standpoint, affirmed respect for Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Moreover, the newspaper commended the continuous Arab efforts calling for resolving the Ukrainian crisis by peaceful means and dialogue. Al-Sharq concluded by indicating that the foreign ministers of five Arab countries are visiting Moscow to hold consultations and contacts to contribute to finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine, and that according to a statement by the Arab League, a delegation of a contact group at the ministerial level is holding talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, followed by a visit to Poland Tuesday, to hold talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
