Al-Sharq Commends Qatar's Diplomatic Movement to Move Afghan Negotiations Forward

Doha, July 13 (QNA) - Al-Sharq daily affirmed that the State of Qatar, which has a great record of successful mediations, is keen to help the Afghan parties to reach an agreement that ends the war, achieves stability, and ensures the security, unity and sovereignty of Afghanistan and its territorial integrity, thus ending the suffering of the Afghan people and achieving their aspirations. In its editorial on Tuesday, the paper said that as the end of foreign military presence in Afghanistan approaches, including the US military's withdrawal, the international and regional parties that have an interest in Afghanistan's stability and an accelerated diplomatic movement began to become active in order to advance the comprehensive settlement efforts in the country and spare the Afghan parties the risk of slipping into a civil war that brings more suffering to Afghan people and threatens international peace and security. The paper referred to HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani's meeting on Monday with HE US Special Representative for Peace in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, who is currently visiting the country, and HE's meeting on Sunday with HE UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy on Afghanistan and Regional Issues Jean Arnault, as well as the meetings held by HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani with various Afghan parties in Kabul and with Pakistani officials in Islamabad. In conclusion, Al-Sharq said that this political and diplomatic movement reflects the keenness of the State of Qatar, which hosts the peace negotiations between the Afghan parties, and its commitment to encouraging dialogue between brothers in Afghanistan, and facilitating peace talks until a just and lasting political settlement is reached in Afghanistan, especially since all parties realize that there is no military solution to the crisis and that negotiating a settlement is the only way to achieve peace.
