Al-Sharq Condemns Israeli Policy of Displacement

Doha, August 04 (QNA) - Al-Sharq condemned on Wednesday the continued attacks, evictions, demolitions and population displacements practiced by the Israeli entity authorities to control Palestinian lands, the latest of which was the case of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem and their attempt to displace Palestinian families for the benefit of settlers. In its editorial, the newspaper said that the attacks and displacement of Palestinian residents to seize their lands have placed the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood issue at the center of global attention, and highlighted all settlement activities carried out by Israel in Palestine, including evictions and demolitions, which are illegal under international law. Moreover, the year 2020, witnessed the filing of eviction lawsuits against at least 218 Palestinian families in East Jerusalem, including families in Sheikh Jarrah, most of which were initiated by settlement associations, which threatens hundreds of Palestinian families with displacement, Al-Sharq explained. Al-Sharq considered that the decisions issued by the Israeli occupation courts are evidence that the Israeli judicial system is an integral part of the occupation, and it is a tool to serve the colonial settlement plans by providing cover for the policies practiced by the occupation against the Palestinian people in all the occupied territories. The paper added that what the occupied city of Jerusalem is witnessing of repeated provocations and attacks by the occupation authorities and settlers on Jerusalemites and on Islamic and Christian holy sites, and attempts to change the legal, historical and cultural status of the city constitute a violation of international law and the relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions. In conclusion, Al-Sharq called on the international community to stop the policy of persecution, racism, ethnic cleansing, demolitions and evictions against Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan and all neighborhoods of occupied Jerusalem,, which aim to replace settlers and Judaize Jerusalem, demanding it to bear the legal and moral responsibility to protect the Palestinian people in general from Israeli violations and aggressions, and to implement its decisions related to ending the illegal occupation and settlement and supporting the achievement of peace.
