Al-Sharq Hails HH the Amir's Directives to Support Pakistan's Efforts to Combat COVID-19

Doha, August 26 (QNA) - Al-Sharq newspaper hailed in its editorial Thursday HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's directives to support Pakistan's efforts in combating the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, by sending medical aid to support the sisterly Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The newspaper said that the aid that Qatar sent to Pakistan reflects its commitment to international cooperation to confront this pandemic, which poses a common threat to all humanity, and its belief in the need for concerted efforts of the international community to address the pandemic and its repercussions. The paper explained that with the priority given by the State of Qatar to maintain the health of all citizens and residents on its land, and its efforts at the national level to address the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has positively reflected on the situation in the country, Qatar does not hesitate to perform its humanitarian role and duty at the regional and international levels and to help brotherly and friendly countries to contribute to efforts to reduce and prevent the spread of the pandemic. The newspaper pointed out that, since the beginning of the pandemic, Qatar has provided urgent medical assistance to about 88 countries to help them cope with the pandemic, with the total of more than $265 million in government and non-governmental assistance. Qatar is also actively involved in supporting international efforts to facilitate equitable access to vaccines, treatments, and diagnostics for all people around the world, whether by providing support to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) or to the World Health Organization (WHO) and other joint global initiatives to support the initiative to accelerate access to health tools to combat the Coronavirus in the countries most in need. Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by emphasizing that Qatar is at the forefront of the participants to combat the spread of this pandemic, which represents a common threat to the whole world, and in this context it continues to provide initiatives and contributions that alleviate the burden of common crises and challenges, by ensuring that all brotherly and friendly countries are supported and assisted in overcoming the pandemic and its serious negative repercussions, based on its commitment to partnership with the international community.
