Al-Sharq Hails Qatar's Efforts to End Suffering of Syrian People

Doha, May 02 (QNA) - Al-Sharq newspaper said in its editorial Sunday that the State of Qatar continues with full commitment its efforts in all directions to end the suffering of the Syrian people. The paper affirmed the State of Qatar's firm position and belief in the necessity of reaching a political solution that meets the aspirations of the entire Syrian people, in accordance with the Geneva Declaration (1) and Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2254, that preserves the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Syria and establishment of justice by holding accountable the perpetrators of atrocities against civilians, in accordance with the provisions of international law. Qatar continues its call to find new ways and paths towards a real and comprehensive political solution and transition in Syria, to overcome the international failure, the paper said, adding that the continuation of the Syrian crisis means the continuation of the humanitarian crisis that increases every day despite all the efforts made by the international community to help the Syrian people face this crisis. The State of Qatar plays an active role with the international community in supporting efforts to achieve justice and accountability for perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Syria, and it is a major partner of the international group to protect the Syrian people from genocide, the paper said, noting that through its active diplomacy, Qatar was able to play an important role in all regional and international forums to support the cause of the Syrian people. Qatar also played a pioneering role in efforts to protect and promote human rights, redress for victims and prevent impunity and to establish the International Impartial Mechanism, the paper noted. Al-Sharq concluded by saying that the State of Qatar's support of the brotherly Syrian people stems from its firm principles of standing with the truth, justice and supporting brothers. (QNA)
