Al-Sharq Highlights UN Appreciation for Qatar's Humanitarian Efforts

Doha, April 12 (QNA) - In its Tuesday editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted the efforts made by the State of Qatar to support the United Nations (UN) and its humanitarian goals, especially regarding the files that are at the forefront of the State of Qatar's foreign policy. These files include the Palestinian cause and the support for the Palestinian people, in light of the siege, starvation, targeting and killing of children, women and innocents, attacks, incursions and demolition of homes, and other methods of abuse committed by the last colonial power in the modern era amid the silence and inaction of the international community, the paper said. In this context, the paper referred to the phone call HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani received on Monday evening from HE UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres who affirmed Qatar's continued support for the UN. It also said that HE the UN Secretary-General expressed his thanks and appreciation to HH the Amir for the State of Qatar's support for humanitarian work in Palestine, specifically in Gaza. Aspects of cooperation between the State of Qatar and the international organization were also reviewed during the phone call, in addition to the latest developments in the regional and international arena, the paper added. The paper emphasized the importance of the Qatari aid to the Palestinian people, specifically in the Gaza Strip, through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), in light of the extreme poverty suffered by millions of families with the lack of job opportunities and the spread of unemployment due to the siege suffered by the brotherly Palestinian people with the decline in international support for the UN's efforts and the increasing burdens. In conclusion, Al-Sharq said that the UN is aware of the nature of the pledges made by the State of Qatar and its humanitarian initiatives that touch on the needs of societies and peoples, especially those who have been suffering for decades under the yoke of occupation, such as the brotherly Palestinian people, whose support and positions are among the Qatari constants.
