Al-Sharq Notes Qatar at Forefront of Countries Supporting Palestinian Cause

Doha, July 02 (QNA) - Al-Sharq newspaper published today praised the State of Qatar's standing at the forefront of countries supporting the Palestinian cause and the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, based on solid principles, human and moral values, and a firm belief in the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. In its editorial entitled "Qatar, the United Nations and Palestine", the newspaper stressed that the State of Qatar has spared no effort in providing all forms of political and material support to the Palestinians at all times, highlighting in this regard its positions and constructive role with partners in stopping the recent aggression against the Palestinians, and contributing to reaching a cease-fire. Al-Sharq noted that the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to provide USD 500 million in support of the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, represented a continuation of its great roles in supporting the Palestinian brothers, and in implementing many projects that serve the people of Gaza and alleviate the effects of the blockade imposed on it for years, as its total aid in reconstruction projects in Gaza is one and a half billion USD. In this context, Al-Sharq reviewed the meeting of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, yesterday, with HE UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland. The situation in Palestine, issues of developing joint efforts between the State of Qatar and the United Nations, and the mechanism for delivering aid to the Palestinian people formed the basis of the talks between the two parties. To conclude its editorial, Al-Sharq stressed that developing partnership, coordination and cooperation between Qatar and the United Nations would enhance joint efforts to provide support to the Palestinian people, alleviate suffering and injustice, enhance the steadfastness of the Palestinians in the face of blockade and aggression, and consolidate the ceasefire.
