Al-Sharq Notes Role of Qatar in Afghanistan Peace Negotiations

Doha, November 19 (QNA) - Al-Sharq newspaper noted in its Thursday editorial the important role that the State of Qatar plays by hosting and sponsoring the Afghanistan peace negotiations, adding that this role does not end with the success of the mediation. In this regard, the newspaper pointed out that HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during a phone call with HE President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr. Mohammed Ashraf Ghani, affirmed that the State of Qatar will continue to make all efforts in order to achieve security, peace and stability in Afghanistan. Al-Sharq said that Qatar is committed, in its foreign policy, to values and principles that include consolidating international peace and security and encouraging the peaceful resolution of disputes. This was evident in the historic agreement between the United States and the Taliban that was signed on February 29, which paves the way for a permanent and comprehensive peace agreement in Afghanistan and brings security and prosperity to the entire region, the newspaper added. The newspaper called on the Afghan parties and stakeholders to show a spirit of responsibility and continue to build trust and work seriously to reach a peaceful settlement that guarantees the participation of all, in addition to building a state of institutions, respecting law and human rights, protecting lives, preparing for the post-peace agreement and rebuilding what the war has destroyed, which is what Afghanistan needs. At the conclusion of its editorial, the newspaper warned all Afghan parties to seize the historic opportunity in the Doha negotiations to establish peace and end decades of war. (QNA)
